The Benefits and Uses of PVC Tapes

PVC tapes provide insulation and sealing against moisture, impact, vibration, air and dust. These tapes are flexible and compressible and they come in high, medium and low density to conform to irregular surfaces and tight curves. PVC duct tape supports die cutting and roll slitting for cost-effective manufacturing and material conversion. There are a few reasons why many people prefer using PVC tape over other types of tape, including:

The advantages of using PVC duct tape start with how it's made. Liquid polyvinyl chloride is poured into a casting sheet, then heat is applied and the closed cell polyvinyl chloride rises to a predetermined thickness, and the adhesive is direct-coated. The adhesive is exposed by unrolling the tape, which completely eliminates the need for a release liner, and this saves the installers time.

Further, PVC tape reduces material costs and meets precise dimensional specifications. Larger rolls which are also known as logs are very cost-effective, however, they require material conversion. You can use lathe slitting to create tape rolls from the log with specific widths. In turn, the narrower rolls support die cutting, and the PVC that's in the die cut tapes provides inherent resistance to sunlight, chemicals and fire.

As briefly aforementioned, PVC tapes are available in different densities, and can be used in a wide range of industries and applications, including HVAC, automotive, general industrial, construction and building, etc. Low-density PVC tapes are an ideal choice for weather stripping, and they can replace polyurethane gaskets at a lower cost. Medium-density PVC tape provides extra impact resistance and strength, and high-density PVC tapes offer high internal strength and high levels of cushioning.

PVC tape can be used as window and door glazing tapes, vibration dampeners, HVAC gaskets and air seals in cleanroom ceiling panels. Additionally, it can provide general environmental sealing, roof curb sealing on roof-mounted air handlers and it can seal the gaps between logs in log homes. They're even used in the making of motorcycle helmets to provide extra cushioning.

Lastly, PVC tape comes in different colours including black, grey, yellow, orange, blue, red, etc. Different colours are used to indicate different things. For instance, in the U.S, black coloured tape mean that they're meant for insulation, low voltage, phase A, whereas in the U.K and Australia it means it's meant for insulation, low voltage, neutral. With that said, make sure to learn about which colour represents what before you buy a roll of tape.
